About Cupping Cupping is a natural treatment that entails applying suction on certain points along the body using "cups" which encourages blood flow to help speed up healing. Basically, through improved blood circulation, it loosens muscles and connective tissue and creates a soothing, sedating effect on the nervous system. It also helps to draw out dead or stagnant blood cells, cellular debris, lymph fluid, and toxins out of the deeper tissues and up toward the surface, allowing for easier release from the body and improving overall blood circulation to the area. Many people describe cupping as feeling like a deep tissue massage with a feeling of release that lasts for weeks.
We provide either cold or hot cupping services typically to patients with chronic pain problems. Cupping is most often performed on bare skin on the neck, shoulders, back, and hips, but can be done almost anywhere as long as a cup will stick. The suction effect on the skin brings blood, lymph fluid, cellular debris and toxins toward the surface it can result in redness and petichiae (tiny red spots caused by the breaking of micro capillaries). These marks are part of the process and typically fade within 2-5 days. Often times, the darker the redness that results from a treatment, the more stagnant the blood in that area and the more you need it! As you continue to receive regular cupping sessions, the marks should become gradually lighter after each treatment, indicating that the health of your tissues and blood flow are improving!
